Weather maps show when and where strong wind and heavy rain to hit

The festive season has seen a lot of rain so far and there's more to come. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain for the majority of Wales after Boxing Day. Some areas might see up to 90mm of rain, according to the forecaster.

The warning will come into force from midnight on Wednesday, December 27 and will remain in place until 6pm that day, according to the Met Office. Affected areas include Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Conwy, Denbighshire, Gwynedd, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Neath Port Talbot, Newport, Pembrokeshire, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Swansea, Torfaen, Vale of Glamorgan and Wrexham.

The Met Office has said the heavy rain will bring "the potential for disruption to travel and a risk of flooding" on Wednesday. It forecasts that outbreaks of heavy rain will move north-eastwards across Wales during that day.

The weather warning adds: "Across the warning area 30-40 mm of rain is expected to accumulate quite widely. Across high ground of south and west Wales 70-90 mm of rain could develop during this period. Strong winds will likely exacerbate any impacts from the rain."

It comes as the festive period has already been impacted by extreme weather. On Christmas Day, two major A-roads were impassable due to flooding, with several roads affected in north, mid and west Wales throughout the day.

According to traffic monitoring service, Inrix, the A490 in Powys remains closed in both directions closed from Cilcewydd in Fron to A458 Sarn Bryn Caled roundabout in Coed-Y-Dinas due to flooding. Meanwhile, the A487 is closed in both directions of the Dyfi bridge due to flooding between A493 and Ffordd Mynydd Griffiths.
