"We were always told" - Journalist drops interesting West Ham claim on "strange" £20m target

West Ham signing Everton defender Michael Keane would be “strange”, but he would “fit in quite well” at the London Stadium, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

David Moyes wants to sign at least one centre-back when the window reopens for business and the Hammers have identified the England international as a potential summer addition.

Keane only signed a new long-term contract at Goodison Park back in the summer of 2020, but his form has dipped this season, which could lead to him being moved on.

Despite his inconsistent form, the former Manchester United and Burnley defender has still been a regular this term, although he’s found himself on the bench a couple of times in recent weeks.

Regardless, the Daily Star believe that Moyes is keen on reuniting with Keane, who he briefly managed during their time together at Old Trafford back in 2013-2014.

But the report says that West Ham will only make a move for the 29-year-old if Everton go down, which is looking more and more unlikely following recent victories over Chelsea and Leicester.

It also states that he would cost the Hammers around £20m, despite having more than three years remaining on his current Toffees contract.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “It is a strange one, but I think he would fit in quite well at West Ham, so I can see why the link is there, but we were always told that Moyes wants someone to play on the left side of his defence, more of an out and out left-footer in an emergency, so that’s not really Michael Keane.”
