We should've beat Ardrossan but can still grab fifth spot, says Wishaw boss

Wishaw boss David Dunn says his side have games left to secure fifth place in the West of Scotland League Conference C table, but must do better than Saturday’s 0-0 draw at home to Ardrossan Winton Rovers.

Dunn says he can’t fault his side for effort, but they lacked quality in attacking areas and didn’t do enough to win the game.

They’re up against title-chasing Petershill on Saturday, and Dunn says he’s going there looking for points as he bids for as high a finish in the league as he can get.

He said: “It actually looked like a typical end of season game, and we didn’t go into it like that, because we had a lot to play for.

“We’re desperate to finish in fifth place, as high up as we can, and if we had won on Saturday we would have moved into that.

“There’s still two games to do it.

“Saturday’s game was one of those where it’s another game without getting beat, but if we want to get to where I want to be with this squad, then no disrespect to Ardrossan, but we should be hoping to beat teams like that at home.”

Dunn has been pleased with how Wishaw have performed since he took over, but they still have a bit to go before they're playing like he ultimately hopes they can,

He said: "When I took over, if you had given me my record now, I’d have absolutely bit the hand off of you, to be honest.

“We were on a bad run, we were struggling to make that middle section, but from eight games we’ve won five, drew two and lost one since I took over, and there are a couple of big scalps in there, like Kilsyth away, Beith away, and our first five games were away from home.

“I think when I sit back and look on it, it’s going really well.

“It’s still a lot of work in progress to get to where I want to be. I’m very ambitious as a manager
