Gary Neville says Erik ten Hag is “struggling in front of our eyes” at Manchester United and has cast a bleak picture of the manager's situation at Old Trafford.
Wednesday’s 3-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle saw the club to their eighth defeat of the season after just 15 games with Premier League and Champions League prospects already looking sour. Ten Hag has vowed to fight for his job, insisting he is a "fighter".
The Reds boss says he will take responsibility for the decrepit start to the campaign but is adamant he can turn the ship around. Boos rang out around Old Trafford at both half-time and full-time, although there was also an eerie air of acceptance following a terrible display.

Neville, who was on co-commentary for Sky Sports, says the match was “painful” to watch from a United stance, and contrasted the prospects of Newcastle, who look revitalised in part thanks to the work of sporting director Dan Ashworth.
Taking to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, on Wednesday morning, Neville wrote: “On my way up to the gantry last night I bumped into Dan Ashworth. He transformed the FA’s structure, set Brighton up for this incredible period of success and has now built a strong foundation for the new owners at Newcastle.
“He’s competent, highly qualified and knows what he’s doing. Will work with his coach, recruitment team and other departments coherently and calmly. In the last two matches Manchester United have played two clubs that have installed proper football departments to support the team on the pitch and off it.
