'We know' - Eintracht Frankfurt boss breaks silence on interest in Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek

Eintracht Frankfurt head coach Dino Toppmöller admits Donny van de Beek is a 'good player' amid reports the midfielder is set for Germany in January.

The Manchester Evening News understands Van de Beek has agreed personal terms on a half-season loan at Frankfurt after being made available for sale again ahead of next month's window. The Dutchman is one of five Manchester United players who could be allowed to leave.

Frankfurt are now discussing the terms of a deal with United, including a loan fee and a permanent option - believed to be around £12.5million. But when asked directly about the move in his Saturday press conference, Toppmöller refused to be drawn in.

“We don’t comment on transfer speculations," the Frankfurt boss insisted ahead of his side's Bundesliga clash against Bayer Leverkusen this afternoon. "But, in general, we know that Van de Beek is a good player.”

Van de Beek is almost certain to leave United in January, having seen his competitive involvement limited to just 23 minutes across all competitions. He was left out of the Champions League squad.

The 26-year-old was free to leave all summer and had attracted interest from Real Sociedad, FC Lorient, Fenerbache and Galatasaray. But a move never materialised and he remained in Manchester.

Even with a temporary move for Frankfurt, Van de Beek's United career will effectively end in January. Should the Bundesliga outfit opt against activating the permanent option come next summer, Erik ten Hag's side will offload the midfielder elsewhere.
