'We expect consistency' - Bernardo Silva slams referee Anthony Taylor for ruling out Man City goal vs Liverpool FC

Manchester City's dressing room is frustrated by the 'inconsistent' decisions of referee Anthony Taylor in their Premier League defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.

City battled hard throughout and thought they had a lead when Phil Foden pounced on a loose ball when Erling Haaland had lost the ball to Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson. However, the goal was ruled out after Taylor was advised to look at a replay of an earlier foul by Haaland against Fabinho in the build-up.

Haaland had a hold of Fabinho's shirt as the Brazilian went to ground, prompting Taylor to award a free-kick instead of a goal, but City were furious that such a soft foul was given against them when Taylor had made a point of allowing strong tackles in order to let the game flow.

Liverpool went on to secure the win through Mo Salah's goal on 76 minutes, and City were left frustrated that the decision to penalise Haaland cost them at least a point at Anfield.

And speaking after the game, Bernardo Silva explained where that frustration stemmed from, with the inconsistent nature of the refereeing the issue rather than the foul itself.

He told Sky Sports: "What we expect from the referees is consistency in the decisions. When you go through a path of not whistling little contacts throughout the whole game you need to keep those decisions and keep going that way. If you want to whistle all of them, whistle all of them.

"If from the beginning of the game you're not whistling little fouls, and we saw it in this game that he was letting us play - which is good, which is fine - then if there is a goal you cannot whistle a soft one.
