'We came together' - Gabriel Jesus opens up on Ederson 'rift' after Arsenal vs Man City

Gabriel Jesus has refuted claims he and Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson have fallen out.

The two were teammates at Eastlands before Arsenal paid £45million to bring Jesus to north London last year. Still colleagues on the international stage, the Gunners forward has been forced to downplay suggestions of a rift between the pair.

Arsenal and City went head-to-head last weekend in a fiercely contested Premier League clash. Pep Guardiola’s side were defeated late on, with another Brazilian, Grabiel Martinelli, bagging an 86th-minute winner.

The goal sparked jubilant scenes around the Emirates as Arsenal leapfrogged City to move joint top of the Premier League table - with bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur ahead of them on goal difference. But tensions spilled over at full-time as players from both sides came together with fury.

Kyle Walker and Erling Haaland clashed with Arsenal’s set-piece coach Nicolas Jover while Ederson, furious at perceived time-wasting in the dying minutes, confronted Jesus. However, the former Man City man has insisted confrontation is all part of the game and there is no animosity between him and Ederson.

“I have a good relationship (with Ederson),” Jesus said on international duty. “Not just with Ederson. But on the pitch it’s normal (to get heated). Ederson and I spent a lot of time together at City and we were very happy.

“He knows how fond I am of him and I also know how fond he is of me. But on the pitch, he defends his team and I defend mine. It was a moment when we were winning and it’s not easy to beat them.
