'We are known for winning trophies': Khune wants Chiefs to end Sundowns' supremacy

Kaizer Chiefs veteran Itumeleng Khune is determined to end Mamelodi Sundowns' dominance and finally bring silverware to Soweto.

Amakhosi haven't won a major title in seven seasons, while Masandawana have collected five consecutive Premiership gongs.

Khune is hopeful that with the recent signings Chiefs will finally end their trophy drought.

"Like I said we have not been winning trophies for the past seven years and that's not what Kaizer Chiefs is about," said Khune, as quoted by KickOff.

"We are known for winning trophies every season and I have tasted that glory and it's easy for me to encourage the other guys.

"Even last season when the new guys came, we won the Carling Black Label against our rivals, Orlando Pirates and I told them you can feel it's different to win a trophy but again it was just a friendly.

"So we had to start with the MTN 8 and win it but unfortunately we had a tough opponent in Mamelodi Sundowns, but still managed to take them to extra-time and penalties.

"We know Sundowns have been dominating for five if not six seasons now and this season we roped in great players and hopefully they will help the club reclaim the glory."

Amakhosi kick-start their 2022/23 campaign on Saturday against Royal AM in KwaZulu Natal.

Kick-off is at 17:30.
