Wayward passes: Adam Jones slams 4/10 Everton dud alongside Rondon; 0 tackles made vs Brentford

Adam Jones was critical of the performance of Abdoulaye Doucoure as Everton lost 3-2 at home to Brentford in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Frank Lampard’s team took the lead at Goodison Park through Dominic Calvert-Lewin but then found themselves down to 10 men just a few minutes later after Jarrad Branthwaite was sent off for a professional foul.

Everton retook the lead with a Richarlison penalty but a quickfire double in the second half turned the match on its head and ensured victory for Thomas Frank’s visitors.

Salomon Rondon then made the worst impact possible coming off of the bench, as he too was given a red card for a dangerous challenge, with the Merseyside club now having it all to do against Crystal Palace and Arsenal this week to stay in the top flight.

Writing in his latest player ratings piece for the Liverpool Echo, Jones actually gave three players a lower rating than Branthwaite, who was sent off, with Rondon unsurprisingly getting the lowest after his ‘reckless’ challenge.

Andre Gomes and Doucoure yielded a mere 4/10 rating, with the latter described by Jones as displaying ‘wayward’ passing, while he ‘wasn’t committed enough’ in tackles and struggled to keep hold of the ball.

Given that Everton are in a relegation battle, the fact that Doucoure’s commitment has been questioned must send alarm bells ringing, so the midfielder needs to raise his game when Palace come to visit on Thursday night.

Doucoure lost out on four of his duels in total on Sunday and also failed to record a single clearance or tackle throughout the match.
