Wayne Rooney messages me after big boxing matches - I think he could beat Jake Paul

Wayne Rooney might get into the boxing ring to fight Jake Paul and Eddie Hearn thinks the former Manchester United legend could even beat him.

Rooney has been talking about potentially getting involved in a boxing event with KSI's Misfits Boxing. He used to box when he was younger and has already chatted with Matchroom Boxing promoter Hearn about fighting famous YouTubers like KSI and Jake Paul. Hearn believes Rooney can beat Jake Paul, who has been boxing for a few years now. Paul has won eight out of his nine professional fights, with five of those wins being knockouts. The 27-year-old American is fighting again soon against Ryan Bourland.

Speaking on the DAZN Boxing Show, Hearn said: "Wayne Rooney against Jake Paul at Old Trafford is a huge event and I back Wayne to win it. He used to box and was actually an amateur. He knows how to look after himself, I think he would like to have a go. I know Kalle and Misfits have reached out to him and I've spoken to him over the years about it."

Paul wouldn't take part in KSI's event because the pair don't get along, so if Rooney wants to fight, it might have to be with Paul's company. Hearn has said before that Rooney gets in touch with him when he sees big fights and really wants to try boxing for himself.

"After every big fight, especially with a YouTuber, sometimes Wayne Rooney will fire me a message. I've said to Wayne, who had a very limited amateur pedigree but could still fight, imagine the shape you'd get in [if you trained for a fight]," Hearn shared with Sky Sports' Stick To Football.
