Wayne Rooney dismisses no pressure claims at Derby County

This comes ahead of a huge game with Peterborough United this weekend.

The Posh are two points ahead of Derby, which means victory for Rooney’s side would bring them up to 22nd in the table and closer to safety.

Derby were deducted 21 points for going into administration last September, but their recent form has brought them to within five points of 21st place Reading. 

Rooney has hit back at the suggestion that these circumstances have led to a removal of pressure from his position. 

“I have heard a few people now talk about there is no pressure on this job,” said Rooney, via the Derby Telegraph. 

“There is a lot of pressure on the job every day. There is pressure on us performing, winning games, representing this club in the right way. There is huge pressure on it.

“Obviously we have been chasing for a long time now, trying to get out of the bottom three, but nothing changes. If we manage to do that, great, but my demands and expectations on the players doesn’t change.

“It is a must-win. I have told the players. There is pressure on that.

“We have a lot of young players but they are good enough and they are in a frame of mind where they are ready for the challenge.”

Derby have only picked up one win in their last five league games, drawing one other and losing the remaining three.

But Peterborough and Reading’s form has been abysmal for weeks, such that any results have brought them closer to safety.

The two sides faced each other midweek and their 0-0 draw ended a three game and seven game losing run respectively.

Derby face Peterborough at Pride Park for a 3pm kick-off this Saturday.

Derby still have everything to play for going into the end of the season, which comes with a lot of pressure.
