Wayne Rooney declines Erik ten Hag opportunity amid Man United sack pressure

Wayne Rooney has declined the opportunity to give Erik ten Hag any advice amid sack pressure on the Manchester United boss.

The Reds manager is facing scrutiny after a disappointing start to the season, albeit Ratcliffe, who is a minority owner at United, claimed he doesn't have a say on Ten Hag's position. Rooney contradicts that view by suggesting Ratcliffe will likely play a key role in any decisions made.

Commenting on Ten Hag's capabilities, the United legend, Rooney said: "Well that's obviously down to the owners of the football club to look at that. I'm sure Erik Ten Hag is a fantastic manager. He's won trophies wherever he's been and won trophies at Manchester United as well.

"So yes, he's going through a difficult period and I think he'd probably say that himself. But you hope he can turn it around because too often managers lose their jobs and then it's another rebuild with a different manager."

Rooney hinted that an imminent decision is on the horizon, also stressing that United players need to step up amidst the club's struggles. "I think it's difficult and anyone would admit that Manchester United want to be challenging for titles, so to be 14th, I'm sure everyone at the club knows they need to improve on that," he added, before opting against giving Ten Hag any tips on how to improve.
