Wayne Rooney backed for managerial move as Man United legend prepares for Plymouth challenge
Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has been backed for a shock managerial move to Scotland amid his struggles with Plymouth Argyle in the Championship. Rooney was appointed as the new Plymouth head coach in the summer but has experienced difficult form since his switch to Devon.
Plymouth have won just four of their opening 18 league matches and sit 21st in the table, just two points above the relegation zone. Argyle's home and away form has been the stark difference, with Rooney's side picking up the fewest points in the division on their travels, compared to the 11th best at Home Park.
Despite this, with three of their next four matches at home, Plymouth chairman Simon Hallett expressing his support for Rooney and admitting he is not under pressure for the sack. Instead, Hallett claimed that he is looking at ways to get behind the 39-year-old ahead of a critical period in his reign.

However, if Rooney does leave Plymouth, former Celtic boss Neil Lennon has tipped him to make the move across the border to Scotland. "Wayne Rooney managing in Scotland? Never say never," Lennon told Boyle Sports.
"He looks determined to be a successful manager and he’s digging in at Plymouth, they just have that inconsistency in playing at home and away from home at the moment and that’s where they have been struggling. He has plenty to concentrate down there before thinking about his next job, but who knows what will happen in the future."
