'Keep your mouth shut' - Marcus Rashford sent brutal Man United message in new selection verdict

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has insisted that Marcus Rashford should have kept quiet after being dropped by Manchester United on Sunday.

Ruben Amorim decided at the weekend to leave Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho out of the squad which beat Manchester City in dramatic circumstances. Two days later, Rashford told journalist Henry Winter that he was looking ahead to a fresh challenge away from Old Trafford.

Rashford has since been dropped again from the United squad which faces Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup. Before kick-off, Carragher was asked for his thoughts on the Reds winger's future and he did not hold back in his assessment of the situation.

"I feel I have been talking about Marcus Rashford for the last week and I have said before, he is not that good a player for the amount of time we talk about him," he explained on Sky Sports. "Wayne Rooney was, David Beckham was, Cristiano Ronaldo was.

"We had this situation a couple of years ago with Ronaldo when he came out and did an interview about Erik ten Hag. I am not for any player coming out and being critical of the club, you know my comments on Mo Salah, but for Rashford to do that, come out without the club having any knowledge and announce he has basically put in a transfer request or he wants to leave, that leaves the club in a really poor position in terms of negotiating his exit at some stage.
