Waterford breeze past Bray Wanderers
Waterford kept the feelgood factor from their Extra.ie FAI Cup quarter-final win going with a 3-0 win at Bray Wanderers in the SSE Airtricity League First Division.
Nine days on from stunning Premier Division Dundalk 3-2 to reach the semi-finals of the cup for the second year in a row, the Blues were back in league action and facing a Bray Wanderers side adrift in seventh.
The visitors took the lead at the Carlisle Grounds after Richard Taylor headed in Junior Quitirna's corner just after the quarter hour mark.
The game was a half an hour old when Phoenix Patterson, who was the scorer of a long range strik in the win over Dundalk, netted another eye-catching goal with a free-kick to put Waterford further in front.
Shane Griffin made sure of the win on 59 minutes to move third-placed Waterford within five points of Galway United.
They host bottom side Cobh Ramblers on Friday night, while Bray will be aiming to bounce back against sixth-placed Wexford.
