WATCH: Woman's panicked call to 999 after car stolen with her blind 89-year-old mother still inside

Police have released disturbing footage of the moment a woman called 999 to report her car had been stolen with her blind, 89-year-old mum still inside it.

Dashcam footage of the chase between officers and the driver, David Stephenson, has now been shared by Greater Manchester Police, along with the audio from the panicked call to emergency services made by the victim's daughter.

The car had been snatched from near Market Hall in Ashton-under-Lyne on Saturday, January 6 this year. The owner had left her mum, who was blind, disabled and has dementia, inside the car with the engine running to keep the heating on.

She left her for 10 minutes as she went into the shops. But David Stephenson got into the car and drove off with the victim still sitting in the passenger seat. Police said the elderly woman 'wouldn't have known what was going on'.

Her daughter can be heard crying on the phone to the emergency call handler, saying: "I've gone to the shop to pick some slippers up for my mum and I've come back and my car's gone with my mum. My mum's in the car.

"They've took her, they've took my car and my mum. She's disabled and she's blind and she's got dementia.

"My mum's in the car, what will they do with her? What will they do with her? What will they do with my mum? Oh my god, what will they do with my mum?"

GMP's Roads Policing Unit officers were alerted during the call and gave chase to the vehicle 'due to the risk posed to the passenger'. Dashcam of that chase has now been shared by the force following Stephenson's sentencing.

The 51-year-old was arrested by officers and the elderly woman was reunited
