Boy, 5, left with life-threatening injuries after car and HGV crash on M67

A five-year-old boy has been left with life-threatening injuries after a crash between a car and a HGV on the M67 motorway in Tameside.

The smash happened on the eastbound side of the motorway between junction 3 for Hyde and junction 4 for the Hattersley Roundabout at around 2.45pm yesterday afternoon (April 29). Greater Manchester Police today confirmed it involved a Vauxhall Astra and a HGV.

The little boy and a 38-year-old woman, who were in the Astra, were rushed to hospital from the scene. The boy's injuries are life-threatening, police said.

The woman's suffered 'non life-threatening injuries'. The driver of the HGV - a 39-year-old man - was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving.

An investigation into the crash is now ongoing. After the incident yesterday, police, firefighters, paramedics and air ambulance responded on the scene.

The M67 was closed on the eastbound side for hours with a diversion route put in place. The carriageway was fully reopened at around 2am this morning.

Police are now urging any witnesses to contact their Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU). They also want to speak to anyone who has any footage or dash cam.
