Watch: Trent Alexander-Arnold reveals Barca are his favourite club

Liverpool and England right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed in an interview that his favourite team other than Liverpool is Barcelona.

Merseyside lad Alexander-Arnold is a life-long Liverpool fan and came through the club’s academy.

He made his debut in 2017 and has since gone on to become widely accepted as one of the best right-backs in the world.

Speaking to Alastair Campbell for British GQ, the Liverpool player said he had a soft spot for Barcelona.

“I’d say my favourite other team would be Barca,” he said.

“I feel as though they’ve got kind of the same values and beliefs as Liverpool, they like to bring players through the academy.

“I grew up watching Messi and that special Barcelona team, with Iniesta, Xavi, Henry, Eto’o.”

Alexander-Arnold also revealed that when it comes to Scottish football, he’s recently had a change of heart.

“Growing up I was Celtic but because of the connection now [Steven Gerrard having been manager of Rangers] I’d probably be neutral up there now,” he told Campbell.

Alexander-Arnold was part of the Liverpool team that turned over a 3-0 deficit from the first leg of their 2019 semi-final to beat Barcelona 4-0 at Anfield and progress to the final in Madrid against Spurs.

There he lifted the trophy along with his other Liverpool teammates to win his first major honour.

He has since also won the Premier League in 2020 and the League Cup last month, but believes that there is no reason why Liverpool cannot win even more this campaign.

“Looking at it now there is only the league that is not really in our hands,” he said speaking to talkSPORT last month.

“All the other cup competitions we are in we believe we can win them or beat everyone on our day if we get it right.”
