Steven Gerrard talks up Luis Suarez as Christian Purslow makes Villa Park stadium announcement
BirminghamLive brings you the latest news and views from Villa Park on Friday, April 15, 2022.
Aston Villa are in line for a busy summer transfer window this summer as Steven Gerrard looks to shape the squad in the manner he wants in his first pre-season as head coach of the club.
One of several rumours that is currently circulating is a sensational reunion for Gerrard from his playing days at Liverpool, as links to Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez emerged in recent weeks. Gerrard and Suarez played together at Liverpool from 2011 to 2014, before Suarez departed for Barcelona for around £65million.
Villa have been linked with a move for the Atletico Madrid striker, whose contract at the La Liga side is set to expire at the end of the season. Gerrard could see his hand forced in terms of a move for a striker, given the recent performance of both Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings against Tottenham Hotspur, which saw both players miss a series of chances in a game that eventually slipped away from them in the 4-0 defeat.

Aston Villa will travel to Brentford later today to play a behind-closed-doors friendly against a youthful Bees side, has been told. Steven Gerrard is returning the favour to the Londoners after Thomas Frank's fringe squad travelled up to Villa Park during the international break back in February.
Head coach Gerrard wants to inject some much-needed minutes into those who have been struggling for game time in recent weeks with the likes of Robin Olsen, Calum Chambers, Kortney Hause, Morgan Sanson, Emi Buendia and Bertrand Traore all expected to feature. Carney Chukwuemeka, Tim Iroegbunam and Marvelous Nakamba are also expected be in action, as will a few of Villa's under-23s.
