WATCH | Shades of Robbie Fleck as Stormers flyhalf Libbok drops ball over tryline

In scenes somewhat reminiscent of the infamous Robbie Fleck-Deon Kayser moment, Stormers flyhalf Manie Libbok was left red-faced during Saturday's URC match against the Sharks in Durban.

With the Stormers leading 17-0 in the 29th minute, Libbok looked set to round off what would have been a spectacular move that started inside the Cape side's own half.

But Libbok was hauled in by Sharks counterpart Curwin Bosch, who pulled on the Stormers pivot's jersey as he was about to score. It's still looked set to be a certain try, but Libbok dropped the ball as he was about to dot down.

The incident reminded of the 2001 Super 12 match between the two teams in Wellington when Stormers centre Robbie Fleck was hauled in by Sharks speedster Deon Kayser. On that occasion, Fleck had slowed down, thinking he was clear of the Sharks defence, before Kayser sneaked up from behind to tackle Fleck, forcing him to embarrassingly drop the ball.

Libbok, though, had an otherwise impressive outing as the Stormers won 46-19 at Kings Park.

He set the tone for the match when he sparked the first try in the second minute. Libbok fielded a poor kick from Thaakir Abrahams just inside his own half. He passed to fullback Clayton Blommetjies but then received a pass straight back. From there, Libbok opted to attack, dummying and darting his way through the Sharks defence before off-loading to scrumhalf Herschel Jantjies who cantered in.
