Watch Philippe Clement's Rangers press conference as boss wants frozen-out flops to leave but won't put 'gun to their heads'

Philippe Clement says he still needs players to leave before he can make any more signings - but the Rangers boss won't be putting a 'gun to their head' to force fringe players out the door.

We're into the final two weeks of the transfer window and Rangers fans are growing impatient at the lack of recent business, feeling they need to strengthen to avoid being left in Celtic's dust. With eight new signings in the door already, Clement said earlier this summer he needs players to leave before he can add more. Qualifying for the Champions League may have boosted the budget and changed that, but now they know it's the Europa League in September, Clement says it's still the case that he needs to sell before buying.

Ianis Hagi, Todd Cantwell and others are on the chopping block while there's also been interest in James Tavernier from Saudi Arabia which seems to have cooled recently. Clement was asked if it's still the case that he must sell before he buys - and he admitted honestly that he's still hamstrung by the budget.

"Yes, that's the case," Clement said. "Some of them know it already for a really long time and they're still in the building. That makes things more difficult. But it is what it is. I cannot put a gun on their heads to get them out of the building. That's also not the idea.

"It's what I said about all the other things. It's not something I can control. So I don't put any energy in that. All the energy is in the players who are here. The players who will be here. And to get the next result. All the energy is in that."
