WATCH | Fernando Alonso completes US GP after 290km/h crash sends him airborne

Fernando Alonso walked away from a high-speed crash with future teammate Lance Stroll at the 2022 United States Grand Prix. The Alpine driver lined the Aston Martin up for a pass on the back straight between Turns 11 and 12, but a late defensive move from the Canadian saw Alonso driving into him.

The impact, taking place at 290km/h, saw the Spaniard's car lift off the ground before landing on the track with immense force.

Though everyone thought that was it for both drivers' races, Alonso managed to continue while Stroll retired his car. Alonso eventually finished P7, but a 30-second time penalty after the race saw him drop to 15th.

For his part in the Lap 22 incident, Stroll received a three-place grid penalty at this weekend's Mexican GP.

The Canadian said: "I looked at it. I mean, first of all, I think it's a shame, we were having a good race. I left him plenty of room on the left.

"It was a big difference in speed. I was kind of judging where he was behind me, and I moved based on where I thought he was behind me. But he got really
