Watch: Erik ten Hag slams his Man Utd players – ‘Too many mistakes’

New Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has wasted little time before telling his players what they are doing wrong.

United endured a disastrous season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick in 2021-22, picking up just 58 Premier League points and finishing sixth.

The Red Devils then decided to appoint Ten Hag, who won three Eredivisie titles at Ajax and is known to be a very demanding manager.

“He’s very professional, he’s highly demanding,” Willem Janssen, who played under Ten Hag for two-and-a-half years at FC Utrecht between 2015 and 2017, told the Daily Mirror. “He demands everything from a player. He creates a winning environment, every detail is key.

“When he came to Utrecht, the mentality changed. It needed some time, three or four months before the mentality of all the club and the players changed a lot because of him.

“He taught us to be more professional, more active, more concerned about your own development and the team’s development. In a way, he was a very complete manager.”

Ten Hag is currently overseeing United’s training sessions at Carrington as he looks at the squad ahead of their upcoming pre-season friendlies.

In one video shared on Twitter, the players took part in a passing drill where they had to pass to a receiving player’s specific foot. But they didn’t seem to get the hang of it straight away and Ten Hag can be heard saying “Hey, we are making too many mistakes!”

While the clip shows Ten Hag’s no-nonsense coaching style, Marcus Rashford admits that he’s enjoyed his first experience of working with the manager. 

“Don’t get me wrong it’s been tough but we have all enjoyed the training sessions,” Rashford said in an interview with MUTV.
