"Was told" - Journalist says Newcastle held "preliminary talks" with "magician" this week

Newcastle United have held preliminary talks with Christian Eriksen over a move to St James’ Park this summer, says journalist Jacque Talbot.

The Brentford midfielder is a free agent this month and is attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs, including the Magpies.

As well as Newcastle, Manchester United, Tottenham and Everton all want to sign Eriksen this transfer window.

The Daily Mail recently reported that Spurs and the Toffees have made offers to the Dane, while The Telegraph has claimed that the Red Devils have also done the same thing.

Prior, transfer insider Dean Jones had told GIVEMESPORT that Eriksen’s preference is to remain in London, which could give Tottenham an advantage over Manchester United.

Whatever the case, it is clear that the playmaker, who has been hailed as a football “magician” by Jamie Redknapp, is spoilt for choice as he prepares to make a decision on his future.

Talbot says Newcastle have definitely spoken to Eriksen as well as manager Eddie Howe looks to improve his squad.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “They have met. I was told they met on Monday – some preliminary talks – but I think he’s been sort of meeting at various clubs, to be honest, so it doesn’t really count for much. He’s sort of been talking to a number of clubs.”

Right now, it is anyone’s guess. Tottenham, his former club, have Champions League football, so that is one appeal when it comes to them. However, Eriksen has said in the past that playing in Europe’s elite competition is not essential for him.
