Warrington target Matt Dufty released by Canterbury Bulldogs

Canterbury Bulldogs have granted full-back Matt Dufty a release with immediate effect so he can take up an opportunity in Super League.

The 26-year-old has long been linked with a move to Super League big spenders Warrington for next season.

Dufty looks set to make the move immediately to help with Warrington’s push for the play-offs.

A Bulldogs statement read: “We would like to thank Matt Dufty for his service and commitment to the club since he joined us at Belmore last November.

“The Bulldogs wish Matt and his family all the best in the future.”

Dufty has made almost 100 appearances in the NRL for St George Illawarra Dragons and Canterbury Bulldogs.

The Australian speedster came through the ranks at the Dragons, where he scored 44 tries in 82 appearances between 2017-21.

Dufty made the move to the Bulldogs ahead of this season, scoring one try in 12 matches for the struggling NRL side.

Daryl Powell’s side are undergoing a huge overhaul for next season, with many players off-contract at the end of the season.

The Wolves have made four huge signings in the pack for next season. Gil Dudson (Catalans), Sam Kasiano (Catalans), Paul Vaughan (Bulldogs) and Josh McGuire (Dragons) with link up with Powell’s men.

Warrington also welcomed Samoa World Cup hopeful Thomas Mikaele earlier this season, who arrived from Wests Tigers. Promising forward Matty Nicholson also made the move over to Cheshire from Super League rivals Wigan.
