Walton & Hersham 0 Maidstone United 3 National League South match report: Goals from Leone Gravata, Riley Court and Ryan Hanson earn victory

Maidstone picked up their first points of the National League South season with a comprehensive victory at Walton & Hersham.

Leone Gravata and Riley Court gave United a two-goal half-time cushion and Ryan Hanson added number three shortly after the break.

The Stones handed a debut to Alex Stepien-Iwumene in midfield in the only change from last weekend’s defeat by Farnborough.

Stepien-Iwumene, who’s joined on loan from League 1 Bromley until January, replaced Alfie Tuck, who dropped to the bench.

The new man looked effective in a holding midfield role alongside Hanson as Maidstone took command against a Swans side thumped 5-1 at Folkestone in their opener.

Walton, the Southern League Premier Division South champions, were neat on the ball, albeit slow in possession, and Matas Skarna looked dangerous down the right at times.

But they were a nice team for Maidstone to play against, giving Craig Fagan’s men time and space on the ball and rarely, if ever, getting in their faces.

Tom Leahy bent a lovely effort just past the far post on his left foot after coming inside in the opening minutes and Ken Charles dragged wide when released by Gravata before United took a 20th-minute lead.

Gravata was the scorer, shaking off Sam German in the box and curling his strike beyond Tommy Reid into the top corner.

Leahy had an effort blocked by German but a second goal followed in the 35th minute as Court was given all the time in the world to pick out the bottom corner from 25 yards.

Walton & Hersham made a triple change at the break, with new signing Mitchel Bergkamp - son of Arsenal and Holland legend Dennis Bergkamp - among those to make way.
