Walsh & McNaul miss out on podium at Worlds in Istanbul
Michaela Walsh and Carly McNaul both missed out on medals at the Women's World Boxing Championships in Istanbul on Monday, suffering defeats in their respective quarter-finals.
Walsh lost on a unanimous decision in her 57kg bout against Karin Ibragimova of Kazakhstan.
She had progressed on Saturday thanks to a split win over Ukrainian Valeriia Yeroshenko but victory today - which would have secured at least a bronze medal - eluded the Tokyo Olympian.
There was disappointment too for McNaul in her 52kg contest. Impressive Brazilian Carolina De Almeida showed composure and nous to end her Belfast opponent's dream, outmanouvering a committed and energetic McNaul to earn a deserved win.
