Wales U20s 30-24 Georgia U20s: Byron Hayward's side maintain 100% winning run in U20 Summer Series

Wales had to battle hard to see off a determined challenge from Georgia in round two of the U20 Summer Series in Treviso, with two tries from wing Harri Houston helping to see them home.

It was the second successive win in the competition for Byron Hayward’s team after their 45-15 triumph over Scotland in the opening batch of matches.

But they had to roll up their sleeves to get the job done in northern Italy. They might have been on the wrong end of a shock defeat had it not been for exceptional lineout work from lock Dafydd Jenkins in the final minutes, with the Exeter Chiefs man pinching two opposition lineouts near the Welsh line.

Dan Edwards and Joe Hawkins chipped in with tries to add to Houston’s brace. For Georgia, Giorgi Maisuradze, Beka Shvangiradze and Giorgi Kevalishvili crossed, with the eastern Europeans profiting from their dangerous driving maul.

It was all a bit too close for comfort for Hayward’s side. On the plus side, they found a way.

And, in Hawkins, they had an excellent captain who pointed the way throughout, not only scoring but setting up tries as well, while Houston also had a strong game along with Jenkins and Cameron Winnett showed flashes of quality from the back.

Georgia led 21-13 at the break despite having two players yellow carded, with flanker Rati Zazade sent to the cooler for a dangerous clearout and fly-half Mathis Modebadze joining him after a cynical trip.

Wales had taken the lead through a well-worked move that saw skipper Hawkins, Christ Tshiunza and Ethan Fackrell combine for Edwards to cross.

But that was the cue for the opposition to get their maul going with Wales finding it hard to do much about it in the opening half.
