Wales squad announcement LIVE updates as players for Japan tour to be named
The Wales squad for the upcoming tour of Japan will be announced today.
Matt Sherratt is set to be back in the role of head coach on an interim basis for the summer series, and is likely to be joined by Harlequins head coach Danny Wilson, Gethin Jenkins and potentially Leigh Halfpenny.
Also joining the coaching staff will be T Rhys Thomas and Adam Jones, who'll work on skills and scrum respectively, as they did in the Six Nations. Sign up to Inside Welsh rugby on Substack to get exclusive news stories and insight from behind the scenes in Welsh rugby.
We are likely to get confirmation on Wales' coaching ticket today.
Only Tomos Williams and Jac Morgan have been selected for the upcoming British & Irish Lions tour of Australia, so Wales won't be too depleted going to the Far East.
However, it presents an extra space in the squad for a scrum-half and a flanker in their absence. Ospreys scrum-half Reuben Morgan-Williams has not yet been capped by Wales and could get the call for this summer's tour.
In the absence of Morgan, Sherratt may opt to select Scarlets openside flanker Josh Macleod, who has been outstanding in this campaign. After a superb season for Ospreys, 20-year-old starlet Morgan Morse could also get his break.
Young Scarlets back Macs Page has shown his sky-high potential this season and his ability to operate at centre or wing may prove useful to Sherratt.
We are expecting the announcement to be made at around midday, with a press conference expected around 90 minutes afterwards.
