Wales squad announcement LIVE as Steve Tandy makes first selection calls

New Wales head coach Steve Tandy will make his first big calls later today as he announces his first squad ahead of a demanding autumn international campaign.

The former Ospreys boss was appointed to the role in July, five months after Warren Gatland stepped down from his position as head coach during the Six Nations, following a torrid losing run. That streak of 18 successive defeats was finally ended against Japan under interim boss Matt Sherratt over the summer, but it now falls to Tandy to get Wales fully back to winning ways.

He has been handed an unenviable task to kick off his reign as head coach as, against a backdrop of turmoil and uncertainty in the domestic game, Wales face Argentina, Japan, New Zealand and South Africa in a hugely testing autumn line-up.

Tandy has added some familiar faces to his coaching team to assist him over the campaign, with Sherratt and Danny Wilson giving up their respective head coach roles with Cardiff and Harlequins to become his permanent assistants. Former Wales internationals Duncan Jones, Rhys Patchell and Dan Lydiate have also joined the backroom staff.

Now, attention turns to who Tandy will put his faith in on the pitch and while there are not expected to be any major shocks in his selection, there is thought to be around a dozen places up for grabs. Not only could some uncapped prospects be in with a chance of a call-up, but, as with any new coach, there could be some forgotten men brought back into the fold.

The new Wales head coach is expected to name his squad on Tuesday lunchtime, and you can follow all the live updates below.
