Wales 4-1 Finland: Hosts one game away from Euro 2024 after crushing visitors

Wales are 90 minutes away from reaching Euro 2024, after crushing Finland in their play-off semi-final at Cardiff City Stadium.

A dominant night began with David Brooks setting the hosts on their way inside three minutes, before Neco Williams doubled the lead with a sensational freekick just over half an hour later.

Teemu Pukki pulled one back for Finland just before half-time, but a comeback never seemed likely, with Brennan Johnson restoring the hosts' two-goal lead shortly after the restart.

Ben Davies thought he'd added a fourth late on, only to see his header cancelled out by a VAR check, before Daniel James then came off the bench to mark his 50th cap with a goal soon after.

The result means Wales have the privilege of doing it all again in the capital on Tuesday, with Poland the team standing in the way of a third consecutive European Championships.

Much of the pre-match discussion had of course centred around the inclusion of Aaron Ramsey in this squad. In the end, those discussions were immaterial. Wales certainly didn't miss the Cardiff City midfielder here in what was probably one of the most clinical performances of the Rob Page era.

Perhaps it's a bad time to mention that Wales have never beaten Poland in a competitive fixture, but this showing might well have been food for thought for Robert Lewandowski and co, who cruised past Estonia in the night's other semi-final.
