Wakefield Trinity latest as club closes in on stadium demolition before redevelopment

Wakefield Trinity chairman John Minards says the club are on track for an emotional farewell to the East Stand with work set to get underway on July 4. The Super League’s historic home is set to undergo a major transformation in the next year with the East Stand being completely rebuild and the North Stand terrace also being given a significant makeover.

Minards has been actively following the club for the past five decades and confirmed the home clash with Wigan Warriors would be the final game before the East Stand is demolished and work begins on a new 2,500-seater construction. Trinity hope to have the flagship new East Stand, which will incorporate changing room facilities and a restaurant at the top for matchday corporate hospitality, to be fully functioning by July 2023 in the club’s 150th anniversary year.

Minards told Rugby League Live: “We’re on track and, while I can’t say that we’ve nailed everything down yet, we’re due to do that in the next couple of weeks. I guess the headline is that the timetable for commencing demolition of the East Stand is July 4, which is the day after we play Wigan at home.

“We have chosen that day and it’s a date which is entirely consistent with the timetable we’re working to. We have a couple of home games in June (against Hull FC and Warrington Wolves) and then Wigan on July 3, which will be the last match to be played in front of the old East Stand.
