Wait for first Team GB medal continues at Beijing 2022

UK Sport chair Katherine Grainger is "not panicking yet" despite Team GB failing to claim a medal in the first six days at Beijing 2022.

There were no genuine medal prospects on Thursday (10 February) with Huw Nightingale the only Briton in individual action, finishing 30th in the men's snowboard cross.

In curling, one of Britain's top Winter Olympic sports, Bruce Mouat's men's team won their opening match 7-5 against Italy.

The women, skipped by Eve Muirhead, started their campaign with a narrow 6-5 defeat to Switzerland but bounced back to outplay reigning Olympic champions Sweden 8-2 in just seven ends.

Wednesday was a day of double disappointment for Team GB with Mouat and Jen Dodds going down 9-3 to Sweden in their mixed doubles bronze medal match.

And reigning world snowboard cross champion Charlotte Bankes went out in the quarter-finals, telling reporters it was "kind of frustrating to have the worst race of my season here at the Olympics".

London 2012 rowing gold medallist Grainger told the BBC, "I think we'll still see Team GB deliver. We still have high hopes for the men's and women's curling teams, we've got the skeleton still to come, plenty more on the snow.

"I was out in Pyeongchang and it was day seven before we saw a medal, so we're not panicking yet."
