Virgil van Dijk's superb defensive stats since signing for Liverpool

In terms of mammoth signings made during the Jurgen Klopp era, not many compare in stature to that of Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk. Penning an initial five-and-a-half-year deal on Merseyside, the Holland international then extended his stay with the Reds until June of 2025.

Having achieved superb success since his move from the Saints, Van Dijk has safely solidified himself as one of the world's best in his position. Tall, athletic, quick and able to play out from the back as well, the now 30-year-old has been at the forefront of Liverpool's on-field success over the last few seasons.

Despite a lengthy knee injury last season, the former Celtic man has returned to the starting XI and aided his side's hopes of claiming their second Premier League title in as many years this season. Also still competing in the FA Cup, Champions League too, the Reds are bidding for a historic quadruple.

Strong defensively, often partnered with Joel Matip or Ibrahim Konate, Van Dijk can adapt quickly and has conceded a mere 20 goals so far this season. But this campaign is no fluke, however, as Echo Sport delves deeper into the numbers behind the defender's on-field success at Anfield.

Liverpool are now unbeaten in a whopping 60 Premier League games in which Virgil van Dijk has featured following the 1-0 over West Ham earlier this month. The defender has also surpassed Lee Sharpe's record for most home games for a single club without ever losing in the Premier League.

When he has played at Anfield in the league, Liverpool have kept 31 clean sheets and conceded just 39 goals. That’s an average of just 0.65 goals against per game. Staggering to say the least.

Without Van Dijk present, the Reds have lost six of their 18 home games
