Virals: Celtic strikers dominate Hoops monthly contest

CelticTV announced on Twitter recently the candidates for May’s goal of the month contest.

The competition is open to fans, and anyone that votes can win a signed Celtic shirt.

The six goals that have been nominated are dominated by Celtic striker, with Giorgos Giakoumakis being nominated twice, for goals against Dundee United and Motherwell, Kyogo being nominated for his goal against Motherwell, and Daizen Maeda getting the nod for his goal against Hearts.

The other two nominees are also attacking players, as Jota is nominated for his goal against Rangers, and Celtic Women’s Izzy Atkinson is nominated for her Scottish Cup winning goal against Glasgow City.

READ CELTIC VERDICT:

It will be interesting to see which goal wins the vote, as they are all important strikes in their own way. Probably the two most important goals are Giakoumakis’ goal against Dundee United, as it sealed the Premiership title, and Atkinson’s goal against Glasgow City, which won Celtic Women a first ever Scottish Cup. However, that does not mean that they are the best goals scored.

The two best goals scored came in the game against Motherwell. Kyogo’s brilliant volley and Giakoumakis’ overhead kick.

Both of those goals were good in different ways. Kyogo’s volley was set up by an exquisite Anthony Ralston pass, who spotted Kyogo’s run and floated the ball right onto the striker’s foot.

Giakuomakis’ goal was all about individual brilliance, as he managed to score an overhead kick in a crowded penalty box, which isn’t easy to do.

Celtic scored a lot of good goals in season 2021/22, and it will be interesting to see if the club eventually do a goal of the season vote, as there would be many strikes to choose from.
