Viktor Gyokeres transfer race takes new twist as Man United receive major update
Manchester United and Arsenal's hopes of signing Viktor Gyokeres have been dealt a blow as another club has entered the race to secure his signature in the summer transfer window.
The Sporting Clube de Portugal forward, who is expected to be hot property when the window opens on June 1, has an impressive record this season with 43 goals and 11 assists in 43 matches across all competitions.
Sporting are reportedly resigned to losing the Swedish international and are prepared to let him go for less than his release clause as a gesture of gratitude for his exceptional contributions.
It's suggested that he could be available for a fee in the region of £50-60million, significantly lower than his reported £83.6m release clause. United boss Ruben Amorim, who previously worked with Gyokeres at Sporting, is understandably eager to bring him to Old Trafford, where goals have been scarce.
On the other hand, Arsenal are set to invest heavily in a top-tier striker after injuries to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus contributed to their Premier League title bid falling short.
The Gunners have enlisted the services of former Atletico Madrid sporting director Andrea Berta to spearhead their search for a striker, with Gyokeres believed to be at the top of the list, ahead of RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko.
The transfer saga involving Premier League heavyweights is set to take a twist as reports from The Sun suggests that Saudi Pro League club Al Qadsiah are prepared to outbid rivals for Gyokeres by offering above the asking price.
Recognised for recruiting former Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Al Qadsiah are looking to sway negotiations in their favour with a hefty up-front payment instead of staggered instalments.
