Viktor Gyokeres transfer clause confirmed as Dan Ashworth deal revealed amid Man United links

Manchester United signing Viktor Gyokeres would benefit Brighton and Hove Albion financially.

Gyokeres, 26, signed for the Seagulls as a teenager from the Swedish side Brommapojkarna and spent three years at the club but only made eight appearances, none of which were in the Premier League. The striker went on loan to the Championship at Coventry City and Swansea City before a permanent move to the former materialised.

Brighton reportedly received barely more than £1million, a deal United's current sporting director Dan Ashworth sanctioned while technical director at the south coast club. However, the Seagulls will receive a further fee if and when Gyokeres leaves Sporting because of a sell-on agreement negotiated with Coventry when they sold the centre-forward.

Sky Blues owner Doug King has confirmed that is the case to talkSPORT. "That was a tough negotiation with Sporting Lisbon," he recalled.

"If he does get moved on to another chapter in his career, then we'll benefit, but I'm not holding my breath; we're not running the club on that basis [but] we'll take it when and if it comes.

"But realise as well that a large part of anything that comes our way heads down to his original club at Brighton. Everybody seems to think it goes straight into the coffers, but these sell-ons accumulate down the chain, so you need to be bringing them up from your academy, hopefully, to get the full 100%, but a lot of it still goes down the chain."

Gyokeres has a £83million (€100m) release clause, but reports in Portugal claim that the striker could be available for as little as £50million.
