Viktor Gyokeres to Man United transfer twist as Arsenal meeting and Ruben Amorim role revealed
Ruben Amorim will be desperate to welcome a few more new faces to Old Trafford this summer. Manchester United have already made their first marquee signing of the window, signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5m.
The Reds have also wrapped up deals for a couple of youngsters, prising Diego Leon from Cerro Porteno and Harley Emsden-James from Southampton. United have shown no sign of slowing down, with Viktor Gyokeres and Bryan Mbuemo mooted as potential targets.
If Amorim wants to splash the cash – and remain compliant with the Premier League's spending rules – he may have to offload some big names. So, with that being said, the Manchester Evening News has rounded up the latest United news and transfer gossip.
According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Arsenal are preparing to formalise a bid for Gyokeres. The report claims that the Gunners recently met with the 27-year-old striker's agent to discuss terms of a proposal for Sporting CP.
It's said that Arsenal are yet to begin 'formal negotiations' with the Primeira Liga champions, but they're expected to submit a 'concrete' offer in the coming hours. A Bola state that Manchester United remain keen on Gyokeres, who has always expressed a desire to move to the Premier League.
The Portuguese newspaper claims that the Reds have not yet thrown in the towel, with Amorim taking on a 'very important role'. Sporting reportedly want €60m (£51m), plus €10m (£8.5m) in add-on, for the Sweden international.
The Manchester Evening News says: "Viktor Gyokeres would be a superb signing for Manchester United. The Reds must wrap up a deal before Arsenal submit a bid. The Gunners have Champions League football on offer."
