While the Champions League returned on Tuesday night, Manchester United were busy beating Brighton 2-0 in the Premier League at Old Trafford.

United’s victory took them up to fourth-place as they look to qualify for Europe’s elite competition next season.

But United are still in this year’s edition having scraped through their relatively weak group.

The Red Devils were drawn against Young Boys, Villarreal and Atalanta but could only win three of their six fixtures. However, it was enough to earn them top-spot and a last-16 clash against Atletico Madrid.

But following a lacklustre campaign so far, the Spanish side will be favourites. United may have won the competition on three occasions but they’re far from one of the favourites this time around.

How supporters of the club must wish it was 1999 again.

That was the year in which the club clinched a historic treble, winning the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.

And it was that Champions League victory that will always be remembered.

The dramatic way in which they overcame Bayern Munich in the final thanks to two injury-time goals from Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskajer will never be topped. But we shouldn’t forget what happened in the semi-final. And we’re making sure nobody forgets it by reminding everyone.
