Former Everton striker Victor Anichebe has urged the Toffees to sack Frank Lampard as manager following the dramatic defeat to Burnley.

Both sides came into Wednesday’s crucial Premier League clash needing a win amid their relegation battle. While Burnley had suffered five defeats in a row, Everton had only won one in seven.

And despite Frank Lampard’s side recovering from a goal behind to lead 2-1, they surrendered the lead and lost 3-2.

Indeed, Richarlison’s two penalties were not enough. Jay Rodriguez made it 2-2 before Maxwel Cornet sent Turf Moor into raptures with a winner.

The result moved 18th-placed Burnley a point behind Everton in 17th and both have two games in hand. However, Everton have – on paper – the hardest run-in and relegation fears have subsequently grown.

In fact, ex-Nigeria star Anichebe urged Everton to sack Lampard and bring back Sam Allardyce, who steered the club away from relegation in 2018.

Taking to Instagram, Anichebe wrote: “The players aren’t good enough but neither is Frank. As much as I love him as a player and he looks a top guy.

“Everton will 100 per cent go down if a change isn’t made.”

Anichebe then captioned a picture of Allardyce: “I said it weeks ago…y’all laughed. Some said rather go down with dignity. Okkkkk.”
