'Very special' - Phil Foden earns triple award crown but Arsenal edge Man City stars

Phil Foden claimed his third individual prize of 2024 after being voted as the PFA Player of the Year.

Manchester City's homegrown star had already been recognised by the Premier League and the Football Writers' Association for his incredible contributions during the 2023/24 season, where he led Pep Guardiola's side to an historic fourth consecutive league title with 26 goals and 11 assists in all competitions. The 24-year-old has followed that up with the main prize from the PFA, earning the recognition of his fellow players who voted him in.

Premier League champions City had a strong showing in the Team of the Year, with Kyle Walker, Rodri and Erling Haaland joining Foden in the XI. However, the Blues were bested by Arsenal's five representatives' David Raya, Gabriel, William Saliba, Declan Rice, and Martin Odegaard all made it in; there was no place in the XI for Bukayo Saka or Chelsea's Cole Palmer, despite the latter winning the Young Player of the Year award.

"To win this award is something very special and it is one that I am very proud of and grateful for," said Foden. "To be recognised this way by your fellow professionals means everything and I would like to thank everyone who voted for me.
