'Very similar characteristics' - Rasmus Hojlund won't be able to ignore Erling Haaland comparisons any longer at Manchester United

If Manchester United want to win the Premier League next season, they will need to be better than Man City. It might mean they need a striker who can rival Erling Haaland as well.

Erik ten Hag has made it his priority to sign an elite goalscorer this summer, though with uncertainty surrounding the takeover situation, that is far easier said than done.

Harry Kane is perhaps the only proven option who could rival the outrageous output of City's extraterrestrial ace, though he'd come with a hefty price-tag and the slight concern that age is not on his side.

Ideally, United would sign someone who could lead the line for a decade and rival the very best in the world. Having missed out on Haaland themselves, they want to sign the next striker with the same elite credentials.

Rasmus Hojlund might be the leading candidate to do just that. To even label him the 'new' version of a player who is just 22 is outrageous, though there is slight mitigation given Haaland has already etched his name into the history books with a record-breaking debut season.

There are plenty of reasons for the comparisons, though. It is lazy to say they are both Scandinavian, have long blonde hair, are over six feet tall, left-footed, and have similar surnames; it is more relevant to point out they are both lightning quick, have a similar playstyle, and share the same gluttony for goals.
