Erik ten Hag can turn to promising World Cup star as Harry Kane alternative at Manchester United

With Harry Kane looking like he is staying at Tottenham, Manchester United have been on the hunt for alternatives. Erik ten Hag has spoken to Rasmus Hojlund and has a number of other options on his radar.

A lot has understandably been said about Randal Kolo Muani of Frankfurt and Napoli star Victor Osimhen. Both scored a combined total of 54 goals last season, Kolo Muani (23 goals) also finding the net for France in the World Cup semi-final.

However, not much spotlight has been given to Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos. The Portugal star hammered home 27 goals aged 21 last season and netted a hat-trick in his country’s last-16 tie against Switzerland at the World Cup on his first international start.

While celebrating his 22nd birthday on Tuesday, he may have been wondering what the future holds for him next season.

If Tottenham aren’t a selling club under Daniel Levy, then Benfica definitely are. The Portugal champions received £107m from Chelsea for Enzo Fernandez in January after collecting £64m for Liverpool-bound Darwin Nunez in the summer.

The likes of Ruben Dias, Joao Felix and Raul Jimenez have been allowed to leave within the past four years. Recent reports suggest Benfica may be willing to permit Ramos’ exit this summer for the right price.

It seems clubs are now aiming as close to nine figures as they can when the big hitters come sniffing around their top talents. Napoli are holding out for north of £100m for Osimhen while Kolo Muani could also cost around £80m with Atalanta apparently hoping for the same regarding Hojlund. It’s also the price reportedly being slapped on Ramos.

It all means that United are not likely to get a quick and cheap deal
