"Very likely" - Transfer insider tips Newcastle to move for 6 ft 2 GK dubbed "one of the best"

Newcastle are “very likely” to target Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson in the summer, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Magpies were reportedly interested in signing Henderson back in January, but they failed to agree a deal with their Premier League counterparts.

In 2020/21, Henderson pushed David de Gea throughout the season for the No. 1 spot, and he ended up featuring in 13 top-flight matches. This season has been a different story, though.

He is yet to play a single Premier League game this term, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick both preferring de Gea to take the gloves.

This led to speculation linking him with a move away at the start of the year, and Newcastle worked right up until deadline day to try to bring him to St James’ Park on loan.

However, he stayed at Old Trafford, and has continued to act as de Gea’s understudy.

Eddie Howe has consistently relied on Martin Dubravka since the turn of the year, and the Slovakian shot-stopper has rarely let him down as Newcastle have pulled clear of the relegation places in 2022.

Nevertheless, Jones thinks Newcastle will want to strengthen this position in the summer, and has tipped them to make another approach for Henderson, who is valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said: “I think it’s very likely that they go for Dean Henderson and sign a new goalkeeper.”

It could be a harsh call on Dubravka as he has performed well, but bringing in Henderson may turn out to be a smart piece of business from Newcastle.
