'Very interesting' - Journalist hints Ashworth 'may' launch Newcastle move for £27.9m duo

Richie Mills has been speaking on the Everything is Black and White podcast about the premier League duo Dan Ashworth could sign for Newcastle United.

Mills, who is a journalist that covers Brighton, weighed in on Ashworth’s appointment on Tyneside and some about all things he will bring to the Magpies and even picked out two Brighton players that could join Ashworth and Dan Burn up north after leaving the Seagulls.

The Magpies have been linked with Brighton players in the past including Robert Sanchez, Leandro Trossard and Yves Bissouma and any three of them would add, at the very least, great squad depth for Eddie Howe.

It’s the former two, however, that Mills believes Ashworth could try and sign for his new club.

(21:50) “It will be very interesting to see if Ashworth maybe looks to go back to Brighton in terms of I think the likes Robert Sanchez and Trossard have been linked so I wouldn’t be surprised if they maybe tried to sign some Brighton players.”

TIF Thoughts on Ashworth going for Brighton players…

The likes of Sanchez (valued at £12.6m) and Trossard (valued at £15.3m) would certainly add some Premier League experience as well as help to keep the average age of the squad down if Sanchez could replace someone such as Martin Dubravka, who is 33-years old, while Trossard may well be a replacement for Matt Ritchie, who’s now 32-years old.

It remains to be seen whether or not Ashworth will feel like he could go back to his old stomping ground and try to tempt some players to move up North, or if he feels the Magpies should be targeting players of higher calibre for the project PIF have in mind to win the Premier League within the next 10 years.
