Verstappen gives Lando Norris and his 'super quick' McLaren Max(imum) credit

It was a terrific battle for the lead of the British Grand Prix when the race got underway.

Lando Norris launched his McLaren past the Red Bull of Max Verstappen, but could not retain P1 on Lap 5 when Verstappen darted by.

Norris, driving a rejuvenated McLaren, kept Verstappen honest throughout the race, bringing hope that the British team is finally back to fighting at the front of the grid.

Verstappen, signing off on his sixth win in a row and eighth this year, had nothing but praise for Norris and McLaren's effort.

"I had to push for it. Lando didn't really put up a fight, he was very nice to me, but then he actually came back again in the DRS, so he had a lot of pace - he did very well today," Verstappen said.

Happy to win

Speaking on his own race, the defending champion lamented his poor start but said he was happy to have gotten on top of it and regain the lead.

"We had a terrible start, so we need to look into why that was," he continued.

"But after that, both McLarens at the beginning were super quick. It took a few laps to pass them, and everything after that was quite alright.

"Of course, very happy that we won again," said Verstappen, who now leads Perez by 99 points in the drivers' standings.

"I mean, 11 wins in a row for the team, I think that's pretty incredible, but it wasn't straightforward."

With the win, Red Bull matches McLaren's 1988 record of winning 11 races in a row, and Verstappen becomes only the fifth driver in F1 history to win six consecutive Grands Prix.
