Veloce Racing take double victory as Extreme E returns to Dumfries and Galloway

Two days of racing produced the same podium as Extreme E returned to Dumfries and Galloway.

The all-electric series was back at Glenmuckloch near Kirkconnel, with the Hydro X Prix taking place in a new circuit at the site of a former open cast coal mine.

And it was the Veloce Racing pair of Molly Taylor and Kevin Hansen who won both rounds, with the Acciona Sainz XE duo of Lai Sanz and Fraser McConnell second on both occasions.

And it was also the same team finishing third, with Andretti Altawkilat’s Catie Munnings and Timmy Hansen rounding out the podium on both days.

Taylor and Kevin Hansen also won the second of last year’s two rounds at the same venue.

Kevin said: “It’s so tricky with double-headers because you can’t let yourself go at any point. Getting excited takes away from your focus and we had to be able to perform on Sunday too.

“For sure it was not a straight road to get here, but that just makes this win all the more satisfying when we were able to execute such a great race in the final.”

Glenmuckloch is set to be transformed into a pumped storage hydropower plant and windfarm, making it the ideal setting for an all-electric series that aims to be environmentally friendly.

As a result, fans are banned and personnel are kept to a minimum in order to reduce the event’s carbon footprint, with those that are lucky enough to attend asked to bring their own cup and bowl.

Over the weekend, 80 per cent of the power on the site – from charging the cars to catering – was produced using hydrogen fuel cells thanks to ENOWA and Kaizen Clean Energy.

The series also aims to be gender equal, with each car driven by a man and a woman.
