Veljko Paunovic makes Reading transfer admission
Reading boss Veljko Paunovic has told Berkshire Live that the club need to move on from the sale of George Puscas in January.
The Romanian centre forward completed a shock loan move to Italian Serie B side Pisa on deadline day until the end of the season, seemingly bringing his spell with the Royals to an abrupt end.
Naturally this led to plenty of unrest amongst the fanbase, especially as the Sky Bet Championship side failed to bring in an adequate replacement for the powerful striker before the deadline.
Now Paunovic has broken his silence on the departure of Puscas, as he stated the following on the matter recently:
“It (Puscas’ exit) was an opportunity for all parties to change and now we all move on to our goals and objectives in front of us.”
The striker has scored 20 goals in 91 appearances to date for the Royals since completing his high profile move from Inter Milan and has arguably struggled to settle in the second tier of English football.
Puscas still has two years left to run on his contract with the Royals, although Pisa do have an obligation to buy the 25-year-old.
The Verdict
The departure of Puscas has been highlighted further by the fact that the club have been unable to sign a ready made replacement for the Romanian frontman.
Admittedly it was a move that needed to happen but rule number one of letting players leave is that you have a replacement lined up when you sanction such a move.
Considering they have lost Puscas and Andy Carroll, the Royals have left themselves in an awkward situation that is slightly embarrassing on the grand scheme of things.
Only time will tell if they can bring in a free agent to supplement their attacking options before the season is out.
