Vale of Leven 2-1 Greenock - Deadly duo on target in important win for Vale

Deadly duo Ethan Furze and Greg Thackrey were both on target, as Vale of Leven continued their fine start to the season with victory against Greenock.

Furze’s sixth in eight games opened the scoring in the first-half, with an eighth in nine appearances for Thackrey securing a sixth win in eight games for Brian Brown’s men.

And the boss was delighted with his side’s showing.

He said: “We started the game properly and played right through the full 90 in the same manner.

“Greenock are an experienced, powerful team. They won’t be down the wrong end of the league for long, so I was delighted with the victory.”

And he praised his three-pronged attack of Furze, Thackrey and Ross Cameron.

Brian continued: “If you’ve got guys banging in goals then it makes it a lot easier.

“The two of them scoring is becoming a weekly occurrence, and Ross Cameron is chipping in with a whole load of goals as well. His link-up play is worth goals too.

“All three of them have started the season on fire.”

This weekend sees First Division Kilwinning Rangers visit the Millburn in the Challenge Cup, and Brian says his side are relishing the opportunity to test themselves against a side from two divisions above.

He added: “They’ll be looking at our results and knowing that they won’t be getting an easy time of it.

“We’ve had teams from higher up the leagues come to Millburn and they always get a game.

“I’ll be looking for a positive result, I think we can cause them a few problems.

“We don’t want the bubble
