Urgent warning for Lidl shoppers after treat recalled due to safety fears

Lidl has issued a recall for two of its mini-pretzel products due to concerns that they may cause a burning sensation when consumed. Customers are being advised that these snacks are not safe to eat and should be returned to their nearest store for a full refund, with specific batch codes being identified as potentially problematic.

The exact cause of the issue remains unclear, but Lidl's UK division has posted warnings in its stores and online to alert customers.

The affected products are the Alpenfest Style Salted Mini Pretzels covered in milk chocolate, and those covered in dark chocolate, according to an announcement by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) today. The FSA has warned that these products could cause discomfort in the mouth, making them unsafe for consumption.

Customers are urged to return any stock with a best before date of June 30, 2025, and batch code 8535 to a Lidl store for a full refund. All of Lidl's over 1,000 UK supermarkets are said to be impacted by this recall, with notices being displayed in all retail outlets.

The FSA website further advises: "The products may cause a burning sensation in the mouth when consumed... If you have bought the product, we advise you not to eat it.," reports the Mirror.

Lidl isn't the only supermarket to face a recall either, as Sainsbury's has also issued an immediate recall on a six-pack of a canned fizzy drink and is urging customers to return the product to the store. The alert was broadcast through a customer email on Thursday, providing details about multi-packs of Appletiser being affected.

The message from the supermarket read: "Sainsbury's have been made aware that Appletiser are recalling the above products as they may contain an elevated level of chlorate.
